HOLLEY FLAGG
is an established watercolorist, illustrator and graphic designer. .
Born and raised in New York City, she was exposed to all of its energy and visual stimulation. After an academic and art education, she began a career in graphic design specializing in print media. After a few years in design and running her own firm, Flagg Design, she wanted to spend more time painting, so she added illustration to her services. In addition to her design business, she kept up painting and accepted art commissions.
Now she paints full-time.
Her style is loose and impressionistic, with a strong graphic sense and a high-key palette. Her favorite course in art school was Color Theory, and she is passionate about the interaction of colors and their effects on the viewer. She admires and takes inspiration from the watercolorists of 19th and 20th century such as John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer and John Marin, but her art is now evolving into abstraction. She is fortunate to live in New York City and in coastal Rhode Island, where her creative juices are stimulated in the best of both worlds.
Holley studied art at The Art Students League, Smith College, Parsons School of Design/The New School, School of Visual Arts, and in Florence, Italy.
